Working with Vietnamese authorities, YouTube and Facebook have removed 3,000 clips and over 600 accounts deemed inappropriate or slanderous toward Vietnamese individuals and organisations.

This development was announced by Nguyen Thanh Lam, director of the Agency of Broadcasting and Electronic Information under the Ministry of Information and Communications at a meeting late last week.

Facebook, YouTube and Google make up for 60 to 70 per cent of advertising revenue in Viet Nam, while online newspapers and news websites share the small remainder, said the director.

Businesses like VCCorp, VNG and Yeah1 Network pointed out that Facebook and YouTube are active in Viet Nam, with a large number of users and high profits, but they are seldom regulated despite many violations.

The enterprises, who face stricter regulations, said that they want more equity of punishment, reported online newspaper VietNamNet. — VNS
