Construction of a port complex, worth VND4.5 trillion (US$193 million), kicked off in Duyen Hai District, Tra Vinh Province on Thursday.

Financed by Dinh An construction company, the 128ha complex comprises three ports, a warehouse system and a logistics zone, that will enable it to receive container ships with a capacity of 30,000 TEU as well as cargo vessels with capacity of up to 50,000 DWT.

The complex is divided into two stages with the first seeing the construction of one port which is slated for completion in June 2020, while the second will comprise the completion of two remaining ports.

In his speech at the ceremony, the provincial People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Anh Dung requested the investor to implement the project as scheduled while ensuring environmental protection.

He also suggested the investor recruit local workers once the complex comes into operation.

The total cargo volume through Tra Vinh’s seaports is estimated at about 3.7 million tonnes each year between now and 2030. The figure will reach more than six million tonnes by 2030, pursuant to the Ministry of Transport’s scheme.

Located in Dinh An Economic Zone, the complex is expected to better meet the increasing demand for transportation of goods from domestic and foreign businesses, and contribute to accelerating the Mekong Delta region’s socio-economic development. — VNS
