Construction on two wind power plants with a combined value of more than VND2.31 trillion (US$104 million) began in Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province on Thursday.
Financed by Gelex Energy Ltd Co under the Vietnam Electrical Equipment Joint Stock Corporation, the plants have a total capacity of 50MW.
The Huong Phung 2 plant, valued at more than VND932 billion, has a designed capacity of 20MW with six turbines. Meanwhile, the Huong Phung 3 plant which costs more than VND1.38 trillion has a designed capacity of 30MW with nine turbines.
Both plants are scheduled to begin generating electricity in the first quarter of 2021. They are expected to contribute some VND50 billion to the State budget each year.
In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Quan Chinh spoke highly of Quang Tri's great potential for wind energy, saying the province has been reforming administrative procedures and improving the investment environment to attract more investors to renewable energy projects in the locality.
According to Chinh, eight more wind power projects are slated to be launched in the future, helping turn Quang Tri into a renewable energy hub in the north-central region. — VNS
