HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Spanish enterprises will pay more attention to transport projects, particularly in public transport, which has been prioritised by the Vietnamese Government, said Spanish Ambassador to Viet Nam Alfonso Tena Garcia.

He told the meeting of Viet Nam – Spain held in Ha Noi yesterday that Spanish businesses in Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Da Nang City were operating effectively.

The event, organised by the ICEX Spain Trade and Investment and the Spanish Embassy in Viet Nam, aims to seek connections between Spanish and Vietnamese companies in internationally-funded projects.

The event saw the participation of 15 Spanish enterprises in transport infrastructure, energy, traditional energy, renewable energy, and environment.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong highlighted co-operation between the two countries, particularly in public transport.

"The capital demand for investment in the country's transport infrastructure is huge. We expect Spanish firms want information about projects in the sector, especially in the public transport issue – one of the biggest headaches in Viet Nam," Dong said.

He hoped that through the programme, Spanish businesses will work with Viet Nam in developing the transport infrastructure network, while focusing on sectors with huge potential like the environment and energy.

The Spanish transport industry earned 88 billion EUR (US$96.5 billion), ranking second worldwide in term of revenue in 2015. Up to 87 per cent of the total was international projects in more than 130 countries and territories. — VNS
