Vinamilk outlines major expansion plans

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — In the first nine months of this year, national dairy giant Vinamilk purchased 115,300 tonnes of fresh milk from farmers and households throughout the country for nearly VND1.5 trillion (US$71.4 million), an increase of 10 per cent compared to the same period of last year.

The company's milk purchasing price currently averages VND13,600 per litre.

Recently it contributed capital along with Thong Nhat Ltd Co. to establish the Thong Nhat Thanh Hoa Dairy Cow Ltd. Co. for developing the biggest dairy cow husbandry project in the country to date.

It will build a breeding facility and pasture covering an area of more than 2,494 ha that can feed 20,000 cows.

Besides, the company will invest in three new farms in Tay Ninh (10,000 cows), Ha Tinh (3,000 cows) and Thanh Hoa 2 Nhu Thanh (3,000). The total cost of the four farms is estimated at VND3 trillion ($142.8 million).

Vinamilk now has connected with over 5,000 local households that own 65,000 cows. It currently purchases more than 60 per cent of raw milk from farmers throughout the country.

The company currently exports powdered milk for children, nutrition powder, condensed milk, fresh milk, soybean milk and yogurt to 26 countries including the US, Australia, Canada, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Turkey, Iraq, Korea, and several countries in the Middle East.—VNS
