HA NOI (Biz Hub) — General Director of Viet Nam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) Le Anh Son was appointed the chairman of the corporation's Members' Council as of October 1.

The appointment was announced by the Ministry of Transport at a meeting held in Ha Noi on September 30. Son will replace Nguyen Ngoc Hue, who will retire.

As Son will leave his current post, his deputy, Nguyen Canh Tinh, will take over as acting General Director of Vinalines on the same day. Tinh has also been appointed a member of the corporation's Members' Council.

Son, born in 1971, holds a masters' degree in financing and bank management. He has held many positions, including that of deputy and general director of Vinalines.

Son was responsible for the Vinalines restructuring project, which focused on restructuring finances, managing the fleet of ships and handling corporate administration through measures such as cutting losses, purchasing debts at the prevailing market price, transferring debts into capital contribution and selling old ships that were operated inefficiently.

Tinh, 40, used to be the head of the Finance and Contribution Capital Management Department and deputy general director of Vinalines. He has advised on and directly implemented measures to restructure Vinalines.

Vinalines has been described as a key business in Viet Nam's maritime sector. Its activities cover sea transport and the operation of sea ports, as well as logistics. It plans to complete equitisation, balance its income and expenses and continue making a profit. — VNS
