HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vietnamese seafood, such as shrimp and Basa fish, is popular with Australian consumers, with the Basa fish the most consumed in the country after the Tasmanian Atlantic salmon.

Positive comments by Australian aquatic experts and importers were mentioned in a report broadcast on Australia's ABC TV.

Viet Nam's aquatic supply chain meets high-quality standards, with many products from local giant export companies standing at the top of the list of the best imported seafood, the report stated.

However, Chairman of the Australian Association of Seafood Importers Norman Grant said many Australian consumers still avoid fish from Viet Nam and Thailand because they wrongly believe that lower-cost products are less flavourful.

Last year, Australia imported seafood worth more than US$160 million from Viet Nam. The figure is expected to exceed $200 million in 2014.— VNS
