HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The bilateral trade turnover between Viet Nam and the United Kingdom reached 2.8 billion GBP (USD$4.5 billion), reflecting a year-on-year drop of 2 per cent.

This was revealed by the commerce division of the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Of the total, the embassy said, Viet Nam's export value to the United Kingdom was pegged at $3.95 billion, with the key exported products being mobile phones, garments and textiles, footwear and timber furniture.

Meanwhile, Viet Nam spent $554 million to import cars and pharmaceutical products from the United Kingdom.

According to the commerce division of the embassy, despite the decrease in turnover, Viet Nam has succeeded in maintaining market segments of the country's major exported goods.

The embassy suggested that the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and concerned authorities should organise working trips to the United Kingdom for local businessmen so as to promote bilateral trade, particularly when the eighth session of Viet Nam-U.K. Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) is to be held in London in March. — VNS
