The Van Don Heritage Road mega project was up on the table for comments of the Quang Ninh Province’s Party Committee on Thursday.

Van Don Heritage Road is among a series of project worth US$2.7 billion in total to soon be developed at Van Don, as a foundation for turning the district into a special administrative-economic unit.

To be developed by the Van Don Heritage Road Joint Stock Company, the project will cover an area of more than 3,300ha and have nine sub-areas -- ocean resort, luxury residential area, ecological area and hilltop scenic village, as well as golf course, spiritual tourism area, coastal resort, luxury mountain-side area and gigantic islands.

Nguyen Van Doc, secretary of the provincial Party Committee, highly appreciated the plans for the Van Don Heritage Road, which integrated the land’s natural conditions and traditional culture.

The project is expected to become a tourism magnet of Van Don and contribute to boosting the province’s socio-economic development.

The province generally agreed with the proposed planning of the developer but asked for careful study of the impact on the lives of residents, environment and ecosystem to ensure harmonised connectivity with other projects in the region and environmental protection.

The province also asked the developer to gear up the making of detailed plans and ensure the project’s progress.

The northern province of Quang Ninh is also speeding up the implementation of infrastructure projects in Van Don, including the resettlement project of Van Don International Airport, highway projects from Ha Long to Van Don and Van Don to Mong cai, and the Hon Net-Con Ong Port complex.

According to deputy head of Quang Ninh Economic Zone Management Board Hoang Trung Kien, a series of projects worth an estimated total of $2.7 billion would begin in Van Don in 2018, including tourism complex Sonesea Dragon Bay, five-star Furama Ha Long Viet Nam Resort & Villas and Van Don Heritage Road. — VNS
