Turkey is looking into an anti-dumping case against polyester flat yarn (HS 5402.47) imports from Viet Nam, according to the country's trade representative in Turkey.

In recent years, Turkey has imposed trade defence tariffs on a number of polyester textured yarn products from Viet Nam, making it a much less attractive destination for Vietnamese polyester makers.

According to the Viet Nam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), Turkey is among the countries with the most trade defence measures imposed against Vietnamese products.

"In 2013, Turkey was Viet Nam's second-largest export market with a volume of 138,000 tonnes worth US$321 million and accounted for 14.9 per cent of the country's total polyester textured yarn products export," said a VITAS representative.

"As of now, Turkey has fallen to number six among Viet Nam's export markets with an export value of $79.2 million or just 2.1 per cent of the country's polyester exports," he said.

The MoIT's trade defence department advised VITAS and Vietnamese polyester makers to work closely with trade offices in Turkey to prepare for an investigation by Turkish trade authorities.
