TRA VINH (Biz Hub)— Dai Duc Co-operative in the southern province of Tra Vinh has exported around 2.7 tonnes of red flesh dragon fruit to the US since the beginning of October.

The fruit was sold at VND30,000-35,000 (US$1.43-1.67) per kilo, VND8,000 ($0.38) higher than the average domestic price.

Encouragingly, the co-operative has recently signed contracts to ship an additional 30 tonnes to this lucrative market in 2014.

Tra Vinh province is now home to 74ha devoted to dragon fruit cultivation, with average annual yields exceeding 300 tonnes, 60 per cent of which meet export standards. —VNS
