BA RIA VUNG TAU (Biz Hub) — Twelve member households of the Song Xoai Green-skin Grapefruit Cooperative received VietGap certificates for their green-skin grapefruits on Wednesday.
This was result of a project on developing production of green-skin grapefruits under VietGap quality standards for the Song Xoai commune, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province.
The project is being implemented by the Southern Fruit Research Institute for the past two years. The institute's staff has directly guided farmers to implement dairy production and improve infrastructure in production.
The institute also conducted training courses on production process for households and the farmers had then applied the standards in their production.
Ho Van Kiet, director of the Song Xoai Green-skin Grapefruit Cooperative, said orders for green-skin grapefruits from fruit traders have increased after the co-operative applied VietGap standards for production of the fruit, Vietnamplus reported.
Kiet said the co-operative will encourage its member households to increase areas developing green-skin grapefruits under the VietGap standards for improving the quality of the fruit.
The co-operative expected to supply the safe grapefruits for the domestic and also foreign markets, he said.
Now, the co-operative's 90 member households grow green-skin grapefruits on a total area of 120ha with annual output of 600 tonnes to 800 tonnes, of which 290 tonnes were grown under VietGap standards. — VNS
