HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — The world's leading food service retailer, McDonald's, is set to open its first restaurant in Viet Nam on February 8 in HCM City.
Located near the main gateway into the city centre, the McDonald's Da Kao is at 2-6 Bis Dien Bien Phu Street in District 1.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday, Nguyen Bao Hoang, founder of Good Day Hospitality, McDonald's developmental licensee for Viet Nam, said the restaurant would offer 24-hour dining and drive-thru service.
With a total floor area of more than 1,300 sq.m on property of 3,000 sq.m, the restaurant has two floors with a total of 350 seats.
Although the menu includes the well-known Big Mac burger and french fries, the company will also offer a McPork line of burgers created to cater to Vietnamese tastes.
According to McDonald's Viet Nam, most of the ingredients used in the restaurant will be imported and sourced from a network of trusted global suppliers that uphold the company's stringent food safety and quality standards.
Bao Hoang told Viet Nam News that the restaurant would use local suppliers "as soon as possible" but he did not specify a date.
He said the company was continuing to find and work with local suppliers.
In its press release, the company said McDonald's Viet Nam was committed to working with local and global partners to develop Viet Nam-based suppliers who can serve their restaurants here and around the world.
Representatives of the company did not disclose figures related to its future plans such as investment capital the number of restaurants, the number of customers per day, or the number served on the official opening day.
Bao Hoang, however, told Viet Nam News that the fast-food chain "might come to Ha Noi in one or maybe three years. It is secret!"
Leaders of the companies confirmed that over the next 10 years and more, they want to open more than 100 restaurants in Viet Nam.
The company is still looking for more suitable places to open restaurants. "The retail plan, however, depends on the company's business results and Vietnamese economic conditions," said Nguyen Huy Thinh, the company's general manager.
McDonald's has more than 35,000 locations that serve 70 million customers in more than 100 countries each day. More than 80 per cent of its restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent, local franchises. — VNS
