Three quarters of Vietnamese people do not know how to save fuel, according to the Shell Fuel Efficiency Fact or Fiction Report.

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Though 87 per cent of Vietnamese see fuel efficiency as being important, three quarters admit they do not know how to save fuel, according to a new study released yesterday.

With 64 per cent saying they feel anxious about how best to save fuel, a collection of peculiar fuel-saving myths have arisen: 85 per cent warm up their engine before setting off to make them more fuel efficient, while 41 per cent think filling up at night does the same trick.

Ninety seven per cent drive slowly all the time to save fuel while 83 per cent keep their engine running to avoid frequent restarts.

The Shell Fuel Efficiency Fact or Fiction Report, which analyses the behaviour of 1,000 Vietnamese drivers aged 18 to 40, uncovers the extraordinary lengths Vietnamese are willing to go in order to save fuel and cut driving costs.

Tran Hong Van, general manager of Shell Viet Nam, said: "The Shell Fuel Efficiency Fact or Fiction Report shows just how important saving fuel has become to motorists along with the incredible ways they try to be more fuel efficient. Some of the beliefs revealed through the study were actually wasting fuel rather than helping to conserve it." — VNS
