A seminar to discuss how to build a brand name for local vegetables was held in Can Giuoc District, Long An Province, on August 16, with the participation of authorities, experts, businesses, and over 120 farmers.
Nguyen Tuan Thanh, chairman of the district peoples Committee, told the seminar vegetables are key crops in the districts upland communes and the soil conditions there give the vegetables a unique flavour.
Vegetable production contributes significantly to the districts economic development and so building a brand name for Can Giuocs vegetables is essential, he added.
The use of technology to improve vegetable quality is among the solutions the province has been focusing on in recent years.
In 2016 the district issued Resolution No. 24 on expanding high-tech vegetable production areas to have 1,000ha under high-tech vegetable production by 2020.
It now has around 745ha where vegetables are grown in greenhouses and net houses, hydroponically and using bio-organic fertilisers.
At the event, Minh Hung Group donated 100 net houses with a total area of 7.5ha and costing VND4.5 billion (US$193,891) to 98 vegetable farming households and two schools in the district.
Lam Dao Hung, chairman of the company, said: “We hope [our] support will help vegetable growers in Can Giuoc District access new technological solutions, thereby improving their efficiency and contributing to building a brand for [local] vegetables.” — VNS
