Low-cost Jetstar Pacific Airlines will launch the first flight from Dong Hoi City in central Quang Binh Province, to Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, on Friday.

This was stated by the provincial Tourism Department on Monday. The service will operate two weekly flights on Monday and Friday using the Airbus A320 with 180 seats and last one hour and 40 minutes.

On July 20, Jetstar Pacific began selling tickets on its website www.jetstar.com and through ticket agents. Each ticket costs at least VND410,000 (US$18) one-way, exclusive of taxes, fees and promotions.

Dang Dong Ha, deputy director of the provincial Tourism Department, said it is the first international flight for Dong Hoi City and the only flight from Viet Nam to Chiang Mai.

According to HA, Chiang Mai is the largest province in the north and the second largest tourism hub in Thailand, attracting 10 million visitors in 2016. It is also a transit point for other ASEAN member states.

Quang Binh is well-known for the world natural heritage Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park; limestone caves such as Phong Nha, Thien Duong and Son Đoong; beautiful beaches and the film shooting of blockbuster “Kong: Skull Island.” The province is expected to be a film shoot location for Hollywood blockbusters in the near future. It is also home to relic and cultural sites and is the last resting place of the legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Once launched, the route is expected to fuel economic and tourism development of Quang Binh in particular and the two countries in general. — VNS
