Ha Noi is a leading locality in implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) programme nationwide, said Nguyen Van Chi, Deputy Chief of the Coordination Office of the New-Style Rural Development Programme of Ha Noi.

At present, Ha Noi has certified 2,167 out of 9,852 OCOP products, accounting for 22 per cent of the total OCOP products nationwide. They include six products rated five stars, 12 products rated five-star potential, 1,369 products rated four stars, and 780 products rated three stars.

Nguyen Van Chi, Deputy Chief of the Coordination Office of the New-Style Rural Development Programme of Ha Noi spoke at the conference.

Four-star OCOP products account for 32 per cent of total OCOP items nationwide, while this figure has reached 62 per cent in Ha Noi. That means Ha Noi has developed this programme not only in quantity but also in quality.

The Ha Noi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference on granting the OCOP product certificate on June 16 for 518 OCOP products of 2022, exceeding the planned target of 118 products each year. They included one product rated five-star potential, 271 products rated four stars and 246 products rated three stars.

At the same time, the OCOP programme contributes to the restructuring of the agricultural sector associated with the development of handicrafts, services and tourism in the rural area and promotes sustainable rural economic development thanks to digital transformation.

This programme also helps preserve cultural values, biodiversity, landscapes and rural environment, and manage resources, contributing to building a new rural area with sustainable development.

After granting the certificates for OCOP products, Ha Noi always pays attention and organises events, fairs and seminars to connect stakeholders in OCOP supply chains and display the OCOP products. Up to now, Ha Noi has put into operation 85 places to display the OCOP products.

Meanwhile, the OCOP items, after being recognised, have continuously been improved in terms of food safety and hygiene, packaging design, and brand value.

Many OCOP products have been exported to other markets, such as Australia, Europe and Japan, including products of Minh Duong Food Joint Stock Company; Agricultural Products Importing and Vietnamese Food Exporting Joint Stock Company, and Thien Phuc Herbal Joint Stock Company.

Nguyen Minh Tien, director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Centre, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development spoke at the conference.

According to Nguyen Minh Tien, director of the Agricultural Trade Promotion Centre, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ha Noi is a locality with a lot of OCOP products rated from three stars or more. However, the number of OCOP products rated five-star potential or five stars is still small.

Therefore, in the future, Ha Noi needs to focus on improving the quality of recognised OCOP products, especially focusing on deeply processed products.

He said this exhibition aimed at encouraging the producers of OCOP items to continuously innovate products, improve the product quality, and maintain the prestige of OCOP products. To do so, they need to continue to invest in modern machinery, equipment and technology in production.

The producers also need to build brands, develop product designs, product packaging and labels.

They should strengthen joint ventures and association in product consumption. They need to apply information technology in trade promotion on digital platforms, such as development of shops on e-commerce platforms, and teams of collaborators and marketing.
