A wastewater collection, treatment, and drainage plant funded by the Dutch government was inaugurated at the Phú Mỹ New Urban Area in Phú Mỹ Town, the southern province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu, on October 23.
The governments of Việt Nam and the Netherlands signed an agreement to fund the project on March 30, 2016 as part of activities to enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two sides.
Construction of the project, whose capacity amounts to nearly 30,000 cubic metres per day and night, began in August 2019 with a total investment of over VNĐ818 billion (nearly US$32.2 million), including 9.98 million EUR (over $10.7 million) in non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) by the Dutch government.
Dutch Consul General in HCM City Daniel Coenraad Stork said his country has long been a world leader in water management and it is proud to share its expertise with Việt Nam through this project.
The project demonstrates the long-term commitment of the Dutch government to foster trade, investment, and sustainable solutions in the region, he added.
Deputy Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Công Vinh highlighted the significance of the project for local socio-economic development, saying it contributes to improving infrastructure, addressing environmental pollution in canals, and giving a facelift to Phú Mỹ Town. — VNS
