Coffee festival to return to Dak Lak in March

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Around 200 local and foreign businesses will take part in the fifth Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival to be held in Dak Lak Province's Buon Ma Thuot City from March 8-12.

The biennial event aims to promote the role of the country's coffee sector in socio-economic development and introduce Buon Ma Thuot and Vietnamese coffee products to the world market, said Dinh Van Khiet, vice chairman of Dak Lak Province.

Domestic and foreign players in the field will introduce their coffee products and enhance business cooperation, and the province and other Central Highland provinces will have opportunities to promote investment and trade and develop tourism, he said.

The festival will include he fifth Viet Nam Coffee Expo, featuring 650 booths displaying coffee seedlings, fertilisers, machinery and equipment used in processing coffee, coffee products and others, a farmers' competition, a barista contest, a wood sculpture competition and art performances.

A seminar focusing on the sustainable development of coffee industry will be held during the event.

Viet Nam earned US$3.4 billion in coffee exports last year, of which revenue from coffee exports of Dak Lak Province, the capital of Vietnamese coffee, accounted for $700 million, Khiet said.

Currently, earnings from coffee exports accounts for up to 70-80 per cent of the province's total export revenue.

Khiet said the festival has a special significance to the province as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of the formation and development of Buon Ma Thuot City and the 40th year of Buon Ma Thuot's victory and Dak Lak's liberation. — VNS
