QUANG NINH (Biz Hub) — A businessman has donated a Rolls-Royce Phantom car to help flood victims in the northern province of Quang Ninh and has asked not to be identified.
The car was delivered to the Quang Ninh newspaper's Social Charity Fund for auctioning off, and its reserve price has been set at VND16 billion (US$734,000). A new Phantom costs VND26-31 billion ($925,000-1.4 million).
Besides the car, the samaritan also gave VND2 billion ($92,000) to the local fund for flood victims.
The car was previously owned by Dao Hong Tuyen, chairman of the Quang Ninh-based Tuan Chau Group.
Torrential rains, the heaviest in 40 years, have been battering Quang Ninh for the past five days, leaving at least 18 people dead and five others missing.
More than 3,700 houses have been inundated.
Loss of property is estimated at VND1.5 trillion ($68.8 million).
The province has spent VND15 billion (US$688,000) on relief and rehabilitation after hundreds of families were left homeless. — VNS
