Samsung Viet Nam announced on Tuesday the top 10 contestants from Viet Nam who would participate in the final round of the Samsung Collegiate Programming Cup (SCPC) 2017 in South Korea on August 17.
It is expected that 150 contestants from India, South Korea and Viet Nam will join the final round. They will have four hours to take four tests with the main content being advanced algorithms and data structures. For each test, the candidates will have a maximum of 10 submissions.
Samsung Viet Nam Mobile Research and Development Centre (SVMC) held the award ceremony for the SCPC 2017 the same day to honour the top 21 candidates after the two rounds that were held in Viet Nam.
Students from universities and institutes nationwide took part in the first round of SCPC that had a 24-hour online format from 7 am, June 30, to 7 am, July 1, 2017.
At least 127 Vietnamese contestants, along with 700 South Koreans and eight Indians, passed the first round to advance through to the second round. The second round in the offline format and lasting 12 consecutive hours was organised from 7am to 7pm on July 15.
After two rounds, SVMC selected the 21 best candidates Nguyen Ngoc Trung, who is majoring in software engineering, FPT University, won the first prize. The second prize went to Pham Ba Thai from the School of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, Ha Noi University of Science and Technology. Three other contestants from HCM City University of Science and University of Engineering and Technology – Viet Nam National University were awarded the third prize.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Huh Chang Wan, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Viet Nam and President of SVMC, said “Technology is transforming constantly; thus, students pursuing technology studies need to update themselves proactively and must be determined to renew themselves every day. Samsung Collegiate Programming Cup 2017 is not only an international professional playground, but also a place for contestants to showcase their full abilities, willingness and their passion for technology. The combination of these factors will help the younger generation to own technology and lead the development of IT in Viet Nam.”
In recent years, Samsung Viet Nam has continued to organise the IT contests for students, especially in the field of programming and algorithms. These activities aim to create an international playground that encourages students to approach, learn and gain more skills on programming, algorithmic problem solving, idea developing and logical thinking, as well as to apply programming knowledge to real life. Samsung also considers these contests as an opportunity to evaluate the students’ programming skills, develop young talents, and human resources for the long-term development goal of Samsung in Viet Nam. — VNS
