HCM CITY (Biz Hub) – Vietnamese enterprises should participate in the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) to network, exchange experiences and form business alliances.

The summit, to be held October 11-12 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is expected to gather 3,000 participants including entrepreneurs from many sectors, governmental bodies and NGOs, trade groups and associations, chambers of commerce, academics, scientists and other specialists.

Tran Hai Nam, an official of the Malaysia Trade Promotion Agency, said they are hoping to welcome 500 participants from Viet Nam, more than from other countries.

GES was launched by US President Barack Obama in 2009 as a platform to empower entrepreneurs with the skills and resources necessary to compete and thrive in the 21st century.

Obama and more than 93 notable speakers representing over 70 countries are expected to attend the summit. These include Prof. Chan Kim, who co-authored the Blue Ocean Strategy, Sheryl Sandberg, CEO of Facebook Howard Schultz, chairman and CEO of Starbucks, and Jay Walker, chairman and CEP of Walker Digital.

They will speak on a wide range of topics including building an entrepreneurial ecosystem, creating tomorrow's game changers, emerging trends and connecting for growth.

The summit will also discuss difficulties that have hindered the development of enterprises, especially SMEs, in an uncertain, competitive global environment.

Several events will be organised on the sidelines of the summit. Two of them are: the Global Innovation through Science and Technology Exhibition; and the International GreenTech & Eco-Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2013).

According to the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, in the five months of this year, 25,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Malaysia, an increase of 9.5 per cent over the same period of last year. The number of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) tourists has seen an increase of 15 per cent. — VNS
