The Vietnam Ocean Shipping Co. (VOS) is planning to purchase three new ships in 2024, two bulk carriers of 38,000DWT and 64,000DWT and a 50,000DWT oil tanker.

The cost has been estimated at around VNĐ1.9 trillion (US$76.7 million) with the company footing 40 per cent of the bill.

In addition, VOS has also been looking to add additional ships to its fleet of two oil tankers and two oil/chemical tankers by signing new leases. Meanwhile, a plan to retire old ships, including the Đại Minh oil tanker, which has been operating for nearly 20 years, was announced recently.

The company said it has set a yearly profit target of VNĐ323 billion this year.

VOS's net profit surged to 104.5 per cent year-on-year during the third quarter of last year due to gains from restructuring and the sales of the Neptune Star ship, worth VNĐ60 billion. — VNS
