VinSmart Research and Production Company, an affiliate of Vingroup, on Thursday announced its co-operation agreement with Japan’s Fujisu and US’s Qualcomm to produce 5G smartphones.

The Made in Vietnam smartphone will be produced at Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in the capital city. It will be sold in the US, EU and other markets globally as of April 2020.

Under the agreement, VinSmart and its partners will produce a special 5G smartphone model bearing the VSmart brand, which will use Qualcomm’s snapdragon 5G module platform while incorporating Fujitsu’s advanced features such as battery saving, IP68 waterproofing and optimal 4G+5G antenna system.

Speaking about this partnership, Vice Chairman and CEO of Vingroup Nguyen Viet Quang said the co-operation with the world's leading technology partners such as Fujitsu and Qualcomm is part of the firm’s strategy, heading up and applying the latest modern technology for production of smartphones and devices.

VinSmart expects the co-operation will help Vietnamese engineers quickly approach, capture and develop the next generation 5G mobile phones independently. This cooperation agreement also marked VinSmart as one of the first 5G phone manufacturers in the world, bringing Viet Nam to the list of countries pioneering the application and manufacturing of 5G devices.

VinSmart began producing phones last June. After launching the first four product lines in December 2018, VinSmart has expanded the Vsmart brand's presence in Europe (Spain) and Asia (Myanmar) markets since early this year. — VNS
