HA NOI (Biz Hub) — Vingroup has set up a US$10-million scholarship fund to enhance the leadership skills of local managers in Viet Nam, the group announced on January 5.

The group's representative said that the fund aims to develop a new generation of leaders for Viet Nam's service industry.

The fund will specialise in training general managers and young managers with international standards, for the service industry in hotels, resorts, commercial centres and other services.

It will provide the candidates with a learning-by-doing environment that will have four core aspects of international professional standards, international programmes, good practicing environment and vacancy opportunities in the group.

This month, the fund will launch its first project for training high-ranking personnel for hotel management, and will admit 50 Vietnamese general managers who will work in the chain of five-star hotels and resorts.

Under the 12-month project, Vietnamese candidates between the ages of 25 and 35, with a capacity and passion for a career in hotel management, can compete to get 50 per cent or full tuition scholarship from the group.

The successful candidates will be trained and certified by the famous American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI), one of the most prestigious certifications for hotel managers worldwide.

The candidates will also work in the group's five-star hotels and resorts in Viet Nam. The best candidates can receive a two-week scholarship to work in Singapore, Dubai and Switzerland, and will be appointed as general managers in the group's hotels and resorts immediately after completing the programme.

Vingroup said that most of the general managers' positions are now held by foreigners as the local candidates are not yet meeting the demand, adding that it is affecting the competitiveness of local businesses.

Thus, the scholarship fund will not only help Vingroup to get qualified human resources, but also contribute to the management of human resources to help the economic development of the country.

Besides personnel for its hotels and resorts, Vingroup will recruit senior managers for its retail, real estate, hypermarkets and other services in 2015.— VNS
