Vietjet honoured for developing infrastructure in southwest region

HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Vietjet has received the Certification of Merit for the airline's positive contribution to the development of infrastructure and transport in the southwest region.

During the recent conference on reviewing a five-year plan of the region's transport and infrastructure investment and development, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, head of the Southwest Region Steering Committee praised accomplishments of all provincial governments and other bodies including Vietjet's achievements in recent years.

He confirmed that transport infrastructure in general and aviation in particular met the basic demand of socio-economic development in the region, raised living standard of the people and fulfilled the national defence and public security tasks in the region.

Currently, there are two important airports in the region, including Can Tho International Airport in Can Tho City and Phu Quoc International Airport in Kien Giang Province.

"In accordance with socio-economic development strategy for the Southwest region, Vietjet has continuously launched routes connecting cities in the region, which helps to foster economic development and meet passengers' travel demand," the airline said in a statement on December 10.

Vietjet is currently operating daily flights connecting HCM City and Ha Noi with Phu Quoc Island, Ha Noi and Da Nang with Can Tho City. So far, the carrier has been operating around 5,000 flights, which have carried up to 700,000 passengers travelling to and from the region. — VNS
