HA NOI (Biz Hub) — TienPhong Commercial Joint Stock Bank (TPBank) will be an exclusive organizer of the "World Amateur Golfers Championship" (WAGC) in Viet Nam for the period of 2015-2017, following a co-operation agreement inked on July 29, officials said.

The agreement, signed by the bank and the World Golfers Championship Challenge, will enable TPBank to select a Vietnamese team to compete with teams from more than 40 countries in the "World Amateur Golfers Championship", one of the world's largest and most prestigious amateur golf tournaments.

As tentatively planned, the bank will organize "TPBank World Amateur Golfers Championship" with qualifying round and final round from August 28 to October 28 to select the best Vietnamese amateur golf players. Those selected players will then compete in the World Finals, stated to be held from November 28 to December 5, 2015, on four of the best golf courses in Belek, Turkey. Located on the shore of the Mediterranean, Belek is on the east side of Turkey's Antalya Province.

All expenses incurred by the Vietnamese team, including one leader and five golfers, during the forthcoming championship will be covered by TPBank.

"We are so proud that TPBank has been chosen as the sole partner in Viet Nam for the World Amateur Golfers Championship," the bank's deputy CEO, Bui Thi Thanh Huong, said.

She added that the tournament, World Amateur Golfers Championship, is considered as TPBank's long-term commitment, aimed at connecting the bank's brand with Vietnamese golfer community and expected to gradually enhance amateur golfing standard in Vietnam to a world-class level.

Director of the World Golfers Championship Challenge Tian Loo said several big Vietnamese corporations have shown deep interests and have discussed with their Viet Nam agent in order to get the right to sponsor for Vietnam team to WAGC. "After some judgment and consideration, we finally chose TPBank as our new partner in Viet Nam since the Bank has shown its commitment to fostering the development of Viet Nam's golf industry, which I think there's room for improvement before reaching in line with international standards", he said.

"WAGC has been generated firstly in USA and last year 2014 they have celebrated 20 years of successful operation with the participation of more than 40 countries world-wide. WAGC now has become one of the world‘s premier amateur event, and has been supported by US professional golf association (USPGA). The tournament has been organized through many countries all over the world i.e. USA, Dominican, Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, Spain and South Africa. All amateur golfers around the world have got many valuable chances for creating new friendship, experiencing sport and researching new business" Tian added.

Viet Nam has started participating in the World Amateur Golf Championship since 2011 with the support of Heineken beer, where its previous events were called "Heineken World Golfers Championship". -VNS
