The inaugural celebration of the International Day of Play (IDOP) was held at the Green One UN House in Hà Nội on Sunday. The LEGO Group is one of the founding members of the movement and advocated for its adoption by the UN General Assembly earlier this year.

The International Day of Play is a global initiative that recognises the importance of play in the life-long skills development and well-being of children. The LEGO Group, committed to inspiring and developing the builders of tomorrow through the power of play, has been part of a dedicated network of global organisations, play experts, and children and youth themselves to support the resolution for an International Day of Play, which will be celebrated for the first time globally on June 11st 2024.

A recent global study by the LEGO Group revealed that 9 in 10 parents say play helps their child’s self-expression, boosts their confidence to experiment, builds creative confidence, and provides a safe space to explore and experiment without fear of failure. Eight in nine children feel they can be their true selves during playtime - they are less worried about making mistakes and being judged (85 per cent), just as they feel more confident sharing their ideas and creative work when playing (88 per cent).

In Việt Nam, the LEGO Group collaborates with various partners to benefit over 43,000 children in 2023, including programmes such as the Build the Change programme in Bình Dương Province and a LEGO Braille Bricks pilot across four provinces. — VNS
