For candidates, working for a famous multinational corporation like Google or Amazon is an honour. They are proud to be a part of a professional cross-nation company and talk about it all the time in their networks. The single most important thing that makes those employers desirable is their employer brands.
Why is employer brand important?
Through our work as a recruitment service provider to clients in many industries, we at Navigos Search can see a huge difference between hiring with a strong brand name and a less popular one.
A strong brand brings a lot of benefits to the employer. It helps optimise the recruitment process by reducing irrelevant applications and cutting down on cost and efforts spent on attracting and retaining talent.
So what can you do to create a strong employer brand?
Less than 30% of organizations have employer brand plans in place. There are, however, several examples of organizations that have fully exploited the tremendous benefits of employer branding strategies. Microsoft is one of them. This company is listed as one of the 100 best companies to work for in Canada and the U.S. Microsoft has gone a long way in making itself externally recognized as a great place to work. It boosts trust among employees through day-to-day relationships to create a great workplace.
The Microsoft Career site represents a video of everyday life at its offices, demonstrating a professional, innovative and friendly atmosphere. Every candidate would love to work in that environment.
Another example of a strong employer brand is Google. The company has repeatedly topped the World's Most Attractive charts for both Engineering and Business students. There are many reasons for Google's recurring presence at the top. One employee has said it is "world class" in terms of benefits and care of employees and "almost unmatched" in terms of compensation. At Google, employees benefit from "opportunities for career growth, and tons of career development resources are available," a Google strategic partner development manager wrote in the Mountain View magazine.
A strong employer brand can benefit an organization in many aspects. In the competition to get the best people, employers should stop looking for talent, they need to stand out and make candidates see them with a distinct glow and identity.
