Standard Chartered Bank Vietnam CEO Michele Wee has been named as part of INvolve's prestigious Hall of Fame list, recognising her work championing women’s inclusion that was also featured in the top 10 of the Heroes Role Model Lists in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

INvolve is a consultancy and global network that enables leaders and change makers to build more successful and empowering organisations. Its Hall of Fame features executives who have appeared in the top ten senior Role Model lists for three consecutive years, honouring their longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion in business.

Michele Wee is passionate about empowering female leaders, female-led start-ups, women in tech and ethnic minority women to unleash their full potential. She serves as the senior sponsor of Standard Chartered’s Global Coaching Programme – IGNITE that targets mid-level female leaders to propel them to the next stage of their careers. The program has successfully coached 1,165 senior females (35.8 per cent of the total female population) across 45 countries. She also chairs Standard Chartered Vietnam’s people agenda, where she has advanced initiatives in D&I, Wellness, CSR and New Ways of Working throughout the organisation.

For the wider Vietnamese community, Michele also drives women’s empowerment through various local partners, NGO’s and the Chambers of Commerce to further contribute to equality across the region. Under her leadership, the bank signed Minutes of Co-operation in gender equity with the State Bank of Việt Nam. The cooperation agreement will include the organisation of annual conferences that offer global perspectives on female leadership and skills upgrading for women; implementation of socially responsible programmes to support disadvantaged women; and sharing of Diversity and Inclusion best practices and experiences. Michele also participates actively with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and USAID in a senior female climate leaders network, a powerful gathering of minds committed to gender-responsive climate action.

“I am honoured and humbled to receive this recognition. Lifting participation of females is my passion. The management team, my colleagues and my team show me every day that we truly believe in D&I, our purpose to uplift communities through our unique diversity comes to life. We are committed to creating a space where women’s activities and leadership are not only recognized but are leading the charge for change,” said Michele Wee. — VNS
