“This was highlighted by a 40-fold increase in AirPay transactions in the first hour on December 12 compared to an average day, as people turned to digital payments for its convenience and ease of use,” the company said.

The most popular categories AirPay was used for were home and living, fashion and mobile and accessories, showing that people have become comfortable with using digital payments for essential and lifestyle needs.
There was also growing digital adoption in smaller cities and provinces like Da Nang, Thua Thien-Hue and Ha Tinh.
AirPay adoption increased across generations. For example, consumers aged from 18 to 34 continued to use AirPay to shop for various needs such as cooking utensils, mini wallet and smartphone accessories.
There was a 24-time surge in adoption by Gen X users aged above 50 from an average day.
