E-commerce platform Shopee plans to continue collaborating with provinces and cities to help farmers overcome the difficulties caused by COVID-19.

Recently it began to sell Son La Province specialities on its platform together with local authorities and the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency.

Initially Son La plums and mangoes are being sold in HCM City and Ha Noi, and four tonnes of plums and 1.5 tonnes of mangoes have been sold in just a few days.

The company also offers training and consultancy to co-operatives and companies for running their business and advertising their brands and opening a shop on its platform.

Ha Phuong, marketing director in the north for Shopee, said the co-operation is meaningful since it helps farmers sell their produce and brings seasonal specialities to consumers in time.

Earlier Shopee helped Tien Giang Province’s co-operatives advertise and sell their coconut and pomelo.

It said co-operation with provinces is being done as part of a project called Shopee Farm it launched in April to offer the benefits of e-commerce to all, but especially small and medium-sized enterprises.

It said it would continue to work with government ministries and provinces to expand the programme.
