Phu My Hung Development Corporation and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation have awarded scholarships worth a total of VNĐ7 billion (US$285,000) to outstanding students in HCM City and across the nation.
This event, held on Saturday, marks the 22nd time that the corporation and foundation have honoured exceptional students from underprivileged backgrounds.
This year's scholarships have been allocated directly and indirectly to students.
Some 201 scholarships worth VND2.41 billion ($98,000) were directly sent to outstanding students. University students received VND14 million ($570) per year, while high school students each received VND6.3 million ($257) per year.
These scholarships were jointly contributed to by members of the CT&D group, Phu My Hung Asia Holdings, Phu Hung Financial Group, and other companies and individuals.
In addition to the direct scholarships, Phu My Hung Development Corporation and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation allocated over VND4.95 billion ($202,000) to charitable foundations such as the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, Vu A Dinh Foundation, Fun for the Poor in HCM City, the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in HCM City, and study promotion funds in all 63 provinces and cities.
These foundations will distribute the scholarships to children living in disadvantaged condition nationwide on behalf of Phu My Hung Development Corporation and the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation.
Apart from the scholarship awards, the corporation announced that they have already invested nearly VND800 million ($33,000) to sponsor other educational and social activities in 2024.
The Lawrence S. Ting scholarship programme is one of many initiatives by the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation, which has been supporting outstanding students for 19 years and has awarded over VND152 billion ($6.2 million) to date.
Moreover, the foundation has organised various programmes to support education in Viet Nam, including a project initiated in 2021 to assist children with disabilities in the Cuu Long Mekong Delta. The foundation has also conducted numerous charity programmes to aid the healthcare sector.
Overall, the Lawrence S. Ting Foundation has contributed a total of VND524 billion to education and healthcare activities in the country. – VNS
