MoneyGram International, Inc, a global provider of money transfer services, on August 30 celebrated the opening of a primary school in Quang Nam Province, with Children of Vietnam.

The Alua Primary School in Dang Commune, Tay Giang District, was built by the Children of Vietnam, a non-profit organisation that works for children deprived of educational opportunities, with the MoneyGram Foundation providing US$37,786 for it.

The school will serve eight villages with an expected 127 C’tu ethnic minority children studying from first to fifth grades.

Sheshagiri (Sukesh) Malliah, MoneyGram regional head for Indian Sub-Continent, Indo China and Malaysia, said: "The MoneyGram Foundation is honoured to again support Children of Vietnam’s construction of yet another school for children who otherwise would not have access to basic education.

“The Foundation’s primary mission is to ensure all children have access to a quality education. By working with organisations like Children of Vietnam, who have maintained valuable relationships with the local communities, we can ensure the educational needs of students will be met for many years to come.”

Luong Thi Huong, country director of Children of Vietnam, said, “After 21 years of working with underprivileged children in Central Viet Nam, we are aware of the difficulties that the children in remote areas face in their daily lives.

“Our partnership with MoneyGram has been 10 very impactful years, with their contributions totalling nearly $136,000.

“Together we have transformed children’s lives through education. We certainly hope that with the support from MoneyGram, we can continue to offer a better opportunity and future outlook to those children in need.” — VNS
