Mondelēz International sustainability goals target environment

Confectionery producer Mondelēz International has published its 2025 sustainability goals including targets to reduce environmental impacts by making all packaging recyclable.

The goals also include plans to minimise food waste and end-to-end CO2 emissions and water usage by 2025.

The other goals include increasing portion-control products to 20 per cent of global net revenues by 2025, increasing snack revenues to US$100 million by 2022 and creating and continuing to invest in community resiliency and well-being through Mondelēz International Foundation programmes and partnerships.

The company recently published its 2018 Impact Progress Report and announced significant progress against its 2020 Impact Goals.

The report highlights how the world’s leading snacking company met a major well-being target, achieving 15 per cent of net revenues from portion control snacks two years ahead of expectations.

The report also describes advancements against Mondelēz International’s 2020 sustainable agriculture and environmental footprint goals to combat deforestation.

It said it has reduced absolute CO2 emissions from manufacturing in Southeast Asia (SEA) by 29 per cent since 2013, equivalent to planting 1.1 million trees.

It reduced water usage in SEA by 25 per cent at locations where water is most scarce. In Viet Nam, the number is 36.9 per cent.

Total waste in SEA by has been cut down by 24 per cent since 2013.

Mondelez said it allocated 95 per cent of its $50 million investment to healthy lifestyle community partnerships, impacting the lives of 1.5 million children in 18 countries. — VNS
