HA NOI (BizHub)— The Gioi Di Dong (Mobile World) joint-stock company, one of the largest mobile phone retailers in the Vietnamese market, plans to expand its network to the remote areas of the country in 2014.

Tran Kinh Doanh, the company deputy-general director, said Mobile World had found market potential in the rural areas, where most people buy their phones from small shops.

Doanh said the company plans to open 700 to 1,000 mobile shops in the country's remote rural areas. Initially, it will open 50 or 100 shops in the southern provinces of Long An, Tay Ninh and Binh Duong.

On farmers preferring to buy cheaper mobiles from small shops rather than from well-known brands such as Mobile World, Doanh said his company can offer phones at competitive prices as well as compete with the local shops.

Mobile World also announced an after-tax profit of VND250 billion (US$12 million) in 2013, nearly double that of the previous year. It expects to make a profit of VND350 billion ($16 million) in 2014.— VNS
