The South Korean company Lotte Group and the Lotte Scholarship Foundation on Monday awarded scholarships to 54 students with outstanding study results in HCM City.

Worth US$400 each, the scholarships were given to students at nine universities in HCM City, including Hoa Sen University, Ton Duc Thang University and University of Economics HCM City.

The foundation was launched in 1983 by chairman Shin Kyuk Ho in order to inspire and help students achieve good study results.

Since its founding, it has supported scholarships at renowned domestic and overseas universities, with the aim of discovering and cultivating excellent human resources.

To promote students’ advancement, the foundation also delivers books, IT devices and gymnastic equipment, and donates buildings as well.

Initially, the foundation in 2008 awarded scholarships to 30 students from four universities in Ha Noi and HCM City.

The foundation also supports library construction funds in Viet Nam.

Currently, the programme scale has been expanded to 154 scholars from 20 universities. Each scholarship recipient receives $400 a year.

So far, the number of beneficiaries has reached 1,575 and the total amount of support more than $486,000.

The Lotte Group said it cares about local society by supporting younger generations. The group has offered many opportunities for students to work at Lotte Mart, Lotte Hotel and Resort, Lotteria and Lotte Cinema. — VNS
