Nong Thon Viet magazine’s Rural Bridges Programme on June 26 inaugurated 11 bridges it built in Thanh Hung District, Long An Province.

The bridges, measuring 24-48m in length and 2.8-4.5m in width, cost VND12.55 billion (US$548,340).

Ten of them costing VND8.84 billion were funded by Truong Hai Auto Corporation (THACO) and Dong Tam Group, and the other by Novaland Group.

On the occasion, Dong Tam Group and THACO each donated 100 gifts worth VND50 million and Novaland Group donated 50 gifts worth VND25 million to poor households in the district.

Vinh Hung District on the Cambodian border is often affected by flooding, but due to a lack of bridges locals encounter difficulties travelling.

On the same day the Long An People’s Committee and the organisers of the programme broke ground for a bridge leading to the relics of the Territorial Committee and Southern Resistance Administrative Committee in Tan Thanh District.

It will cost around VND4 billion of which VND3 billion will be donated by the Five Star International Group.

Since launching the programme two years ago Nong Thon Viet magazine has mobilised 14 sponsors who have promised nearly VND82 billion for building 85 bridges in Long An and other provinces.

So far 70 bridges have been opened to traffic. — VNS
