Japan’s Jyuichiya Industries Co Ltd, specialising in welding, opened its first overseas factory on Monday in the DEEP C Industrial Zone in the northern Hai Phong Port City.

The new factory will produce around 2,160 tonnes of steel structure parts for large construction sites a year, such as buildings and bridges. It will supply its products to the booming construction business in Japan, while also aiming for the growing market in Viet Nam and nearby ASEAN countries.

Covering an area of 14,660sq.m, the US$5 million factory has been built by Daiwa House Viet Nam. The plant will start production next month utilising young engineers in Hai Phong and the nearby seaport.

Jyuichiya was founded in 1981, starting its business as an onsite welding contractor.

A dedicated welding factory was built in 1985 at Nagoya City, enabling the company to make steel construction parts while polishing skills of inhouse welders.

In 2013 the factory began to invite young trainees from Viet Nam. Some 30 Vietnamese welders who trained in Japan will work in the new factory in Hai Phong.

The DEEP C Industrial Zone was established in 1997 by Belgium investors and the city, under the name Dinh Vu Industrial Zone. After leasing out most of the original land, the zone was expanded to 3,400ha and the industrial zone was renamed the DEEP C Industrial Zone in 2015.

The zone is located in an economic zone where investors enjoy the most favorable tax packages in Viet Nam.

Currently, 14 Japanese companies are operating in this park. — VNS
