Vietnamese steel giant Hòa Phát Group and Indonesia's State-owned steel enterprise Krakatau Steel Corporation are exploring opportunities for collaboration between the two companies.
Purwono Widodo, the President of Southeast Asia Steel Association and concurrently the Chairman and General Director of Krakatau Steel Corporation, last week paid a working visit to Hòa Phát Group and met its chairman Trần Đình Long. The purpose of this meeting was to exchange insights and information regarding the Southeast Asian steel market, as well as to discuss the promising expansion prospects within the steel sector in both Việt Nam and Indonesia.
Purwono Widodo emphasised that Indonesia's per capita steel consumption remained relatively low, indicating substantial room for growth within the steel industry on this island nation.
The Krakatau Steel delegation also visited Hòa Phát-Dung Quất Iron and Steel Complex located in Quảng Ngãi Province. Among the impressive array of facilities, the hot-rolled coil (HRC) production line stood out as a testament to Hòa Phát's pioneering capabilities – it is currently the sole Vietnamese steel company capable of producing this innovative product.
Purwono Widodo expressed his optimism, stating: "The working visit with Hòa Phát Group and Hòa Phát-Dung Quất Steel Joint Stock Company is a good opportunity for the two sides’ long-term cooperation. I have witnessed the scale of your production with my own eyes, it is really impressive."
Chairman Trần Đình Long proposed potential areas of cooperation between the two parties in the days ahead, aimed at harnessing each other's strengths and synergising their potential. The leadership teams of both conglomerates affirmed their commitment to thoroughly delve into the proposals discussed during the meeting, with the intention of forging concrete and targeted collaborations in the foreseeable future.
As part of their strategic vision from 2022 to 2025, Hòa Phát is actively developing the Hòa Phát-Dung Quất 2 Iron and Steel Complex project. This ambitious venture, set to possess a yearly hot-rolled coil (HRC) production capacity of 5.6 million tonnes, will effectively elevate the group's aggregate crude steel capacity to over 14 million tonnes annually. — VNS
