HCM City university students get Lotte scholarship

Sixty outstanding students at 11 HCM City universities received scholarships worth US$400 each from the Lotte Foundation at a ceremony on Tuesday.

All of them are economically disadvantaged but achieved excellent performance throughout their academic career.

They are from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the HCM City University of Economics, the University of Finance and Marketing, the HCM City University of Foreign Languages and Information technology, Hoa Sen University, Ton Duc Thang University, the HCM City University of Industry, the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry, the HCM City University of Food Industry, the HCM City University of Technology, and Van Lang University.

Kwak Weon, general manager of Lotte Hotel Saigon, congratulated the awardees and said Lotte Group especially focuses on education and community development.

“We expect today’s awarded students will overcome all obstacles in life to live up their dreams and become one of the country’s outstanding talents.”

Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Linh, a student of Van Lang University and one of the awardees, thanked the Lotte Group and Lotte Hotel Saigon and said: “This scholarship … encourages us to … achieve our dreams.”

The group also offers internship and career opportunities for students after graduation at its companies in Viet Nam such as Lotte Hotels, Lotte Finance, Lotte Mart, Lotteria, and Lotte Cinema.

The foundation was established in South Korea in 1983.

Since 2018 it has given scholarships to nearly 2,000 outstanding students in Viet Nam. — VNS
