Doosan Vina, Marubeni join offshore wind power development in Việt Nam

Doosan Enerbility Vietnam (Doosan Vina) and Marubeni Group, Japan, have agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for ‘Cooperation of Offshore Wind Power in Việt Nam’ to promote new business activities of the two companies in the field of green and sustainable energies.

The two companies will be jointly involved in the offshore wind power supply chain in Việt Nam and cooperations towards reducing carbon emissions.

General Director of Doosan Vina, Kim Hyo Tae emphasised that Doosan Vina will actively participate in implementing the Vietnamese Government's commitment, made at the COP26 Conference, to hit net zero emissions by 2050.

This MOU, along with that signed with the global leading wind power group, Ørsted (Denmark), is a base for Doosan Vina to forcefully enter the renewable energy market.

Doosan Vina is currently shifting its focus and business portfolio towards environmental protection and takes this as a growth driver in the coming future.

Kim said that Việt Nam is a country with abundant wind, solar and sea power and it has a high potential to develop renewable energy, especially in terms of offshore wind power.

Kawamura, Marubeni’s head of power business at APAC region said that offshore wind will play an important role in Marubeni’s strategies. With 50-year experience in the power sector in Việt Nam, Marubeni wishes to contribute to Việt Nam's economic and government policy.

Doosan Vina and Marubeni will jointly study and explore the feasibility and viability for collaboration in Việt Nam. Doosan Vina plans to manufacture Wind Turbine’s monopile foundations and other components at its 100-ha factory in the central province of Quảng Ngãi.

Marubeni also intends to explore and expand collaboration with other Việt Nam local manufacturing companies to contribute to the economic growth and development of offshore wind power industry in Việt Nam.

In Việt Nam, Doosan Vina has joined as the EPC Contractor of large thermal power plant projects such as Mông Dương 2, Vĩnh Tân 4, Vĩnh Tân 4 Expansion, Nghi Sơn 2 and Sông Hậu. It is also a key supplier of RMQCs and RTGCs for busy domestic seaports such as South Đình Vũ port, Gemalink port, Đà Nẵng Port and Saigon New Port. — VNS
