Co.opmart opens new store

Saigon Co.op opened a Co.opmart supermarket outlet at 102 Phan Van Hon Street in HCM City’s District 12 last week, the third store in the district and 112th in the country.

Located inside the Topaz Home apartment, Co.opmart Phan Van Hon has a business area of over 5,000sq.m and cost VND70 billion (US$3 million).

It sells more than 30,000 items, including fresh and processed foods, cosmetics, clothes and household goods and accessories, 90 per cent of which are high-quality Vietnamese products.

To mark its opening, the new outlet has launched promotions until April 12, including discounts of up to 50 per cent on thousands of essential items and hundreds of attractive gifts to shoppers.

Customers with bills of VND300,000 and more can win attractive lucky-draw prizes like a Honda Air Blade, a Saigon Co.op 30th anniversary logo made from one tael of gold, Samsung TV 4k 49 inch and others.

In another matter, Saigon Co.op’s retail systems, including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food and Co.op Smiles, are trialing the use of fresh banana leaves instead of plastic film to pack fruits and vegetables to contribute to environmental protection.

Co.opmart Phan Thiet, Tay Ninh, Quy Nhon, Tam Ky and some Co.opmart and Co.op Food in HCM City are among the stores packing fruits and vegetables with banana leaves. The use of banana leaves will be gradually expanded at all of the retailer’s stores nationwide.

The Co.opmart supermarket system was the first retailer in Viet Nam to replace plastic bags with eco-friendly biodegradable plastic bags, beginning in March 2011. — VNS
