PepsiCo Foods Vietnam officially began construction of a snack manufacturing plant in Hà Nam Province on Saturday.
The US$90 million investment signifies PepsiCo Foods Vietnam’s unwavering commitment to the Vietnamese market and coincides with the company's 30th anniversary in the country.
Spanning eight hectares, the new facility is set to become a cornerstone of PepsiCo's operations in Việt Nam, with an annual production capacity of over 20,000 tonnes of snacks.
The new plant represents PepsiCo Foods Vietnam's strategic expansion to meet increasing consumer demand and strengthen its market presence. This milestone in PepsiCo's growth in Việt Nam is expected to significantly contribute to the country's socio-economic development.
PepsiCo Foods Vietnam aims to help Vietnamese farmers adopt sustainable practices through its PepsiCo Positive (pep+) strategy, targeting 100 per cent sustainable sourcing and promoting regenerative agriculture by 2030.
"This investment is a testament to our confidence in Việt Nam's dynamic economy and its people," said Nguyễn Việt Hà, General Manager of PepsiCo Foods Vietnam.
"As we celebrate 30 years in Việt Nam, we're not just building a factory but reinforcing our commitment to sustainable growth, community development and innovation."
Utilising biomass and solar power, the Hà Nam plant aims to minimise its environmental impact, including implementing rooftop solar panels and biomass systems to generate electricity from local agricultural waste.
The new plant is anticipated to serve as a driving force for community development, extending beyond its economic and social impact. It is projected to create numerous job opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, packaging, and agriculture, thereby boosting the local economy. Once operational the plant would generate over 1,000 jobs in direct and indirect employment.
Additionally, PepsiCo Foods Vietnam will introduce a comprehensive programme to equip Hà Nam's youth with essential soft skills for contemporary industrial environments in collaboration with the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Hà Nam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hà Nam Province Trương Quốc Huy said: "The groundbreaking ceremony of the new factory of PepsiCo Foods Vietnam in Hà Nam would help the province gradually actualise its goal of becoming a modern industrial province by 2025 through a modern and sustainable factory using renewable energy, improving the quality of labor in the area."
At the same time, the province also wants to effectively utilise favourable conditions in terms of climate and land for growing clean agricultural crops, developing high-tech agriculture, and bringing great economic efficiency.
"We are ready to fully support the enterprise so that the construction of the factory, the development of industrial economy, agriculture and assisting services will be favourable, bringing benefits to the enterprise, Hà Nam province and Việt Nam," Huy added. — VNS
