South Korean CJ Group has announced the successful completion of its three-year project on educating Vietnamese ethnic minority girls in the three provinces of Ha Giang, Ninh Thuan and Soc Trang.

Implemented by CJ Group from February 2019 to April 2022, the project had a total capital of US$500,000 directly funded by the Korean firm.

During the three years, the project maintained and improved the school attendance rate of ethnic minority girls while helping improve the facilities and educational environment in poor localities. The project was deployed in 24 junior high schools, with more than 10 ethnic minorities participating.

The project reached about 42,000 people, including ethnic minority girls, families, and school staff. In addition, it also expanded its reach to parents, local people and teachers.

It aimed at substantive goals, including raising awareness of the importance of education for girls, designing various educational content and creating links between educational institutions and local businesses to create job opportunities for students after graduation.

The project also supported vocational training programmes at schools to create more career opportunities for girls and low-income women in the locality. Meanwhile, it has also worked with schools and local leaders to ensure that vocational training programmes at the schools were guaranteed to continue even after the project ends.

Min Hee Kyung, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of CJ, said despite some difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the projects ended with great success.

"From the motto 'Do not let poverty hinder education,' CJ wishes to create more learning opportunities for children, to create a source of talent for the host country,” he said.

CJ has always made great efforts to carry out many social and community projects in Viet Nam in recent years. — VNS
