Big C Hue supermarket and the Vietnam Red Cross Society donated basic necessities to 500 families affected by floods in Huong Tra town in Thua Thien-Hue Province on October 13.
Each package worth VND300,000 (US$12.9) consisted of bottled water, bread, sausage, cereals, fish sauce, instant noodles, cakes, and milk.
Nguyen Thi Phuong, deputy general director of Central Retail Group in Viet Nam, which owns Big C, said her company wanted to make a small contribution to mitigate the sufferings of people due to the floods and hoped they would soon overcome them and return to normal life.
According to a report by the province Steering Committee for natural Disaster and Rescue, continuing heavy rains and flooding have killed three people, one person is missing and seven have been injured.
More than 53,385 houses were under 0.5-1.8 metres of water, and even more in some places.
More than 19,500 people have been moved to safer places.
The province has drawn from its reserves over 11,000 cartons of instant noodles and thousands of bottles of water to provide relief to people in areas cut off by the flooding, including Hue City, Huong Tra town and Quang Dien District. — VNS
