Cargill on October 20 opened a US$28 million feed mill in Binh Duong Province to better serve livestock farmers in the south of the country, bringing Cargill’s total number of animal nutrition facilities in Viet Nam to 12.
The 48,000sq.m feed mill produces a wide portfolio of poultry and swine feed, and has an annual capacity of 240,000 tonnes.
The mill is Cargill’s largest and most technologically advanced, with a large portion of the plant’s operations being automated, allowing for increased operational efficiency and an enhanced customer experience.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Xuan Duong, general director of the Livestock Production under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that "Cargill is one of the top five biggest investors in the local feed sector with 12 animal nutrition facilities located across the country with a total production capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per year".
“Cargill feeds have been recognized and trusted by animal farmers and producers for its high quality and safety for food.
“I would like to feature Cargill’s swine feed. The company was awarded The Best Swine Feed Company in 2017-2018 at the Vietstock trade show held on October 17-19.”
He highly appreciated the company’s valuable contribution to the development of Viet Nam’s livestock production sector in the past years.
The opening of the new plant would help Cargill grow along with Viet Nam’s feed industry, he said.
Philippa Purser, group director, Cargill Feed and Nutrition, said: “Our ability to serve our customers, and help fuel the growth aspirations of the livestock industry here in southern Viet Nam takes an exciting step forward with the completion of this facility.”
Since entering the country in 1995, Cargill had been a strong advocate for the Government’s calls to improve farmers’ livelihoods, and for technology transfer in agriculture, acceleration of agriculture investments, and use of technology to boost production and productivity, she said.
“Within Cargill Animal Nutrition, we have a deep commitment to the success of our customers and their communities throughout Viet Nam. That’s best reflected in the more than $150 million in investments Cargill Animal Nutrition has made in Viet Nam’s livestock and aquaculture industry over the last two decades.” — VNS
