A record breaking event to fry rice in the biggest pan in Viet Nam was organised at Le Thi Rieng Park in HCM City’s District 10 last week.
The event was organised by Vedan Vietnam and the Vietnam Record Setting Organisation with the aim of showcasing Vietnamese cuisine.
The pan was 3 metres in diameter and 5mm thick and weighed almost 300kg.
Twenty cooks fried almost 300kg of rice in two hours under the instruction of master chef Thanh Cuong.
They had to use spatulas 1.8 metres long to stir the rice.
A Vedan representative said many Vietnamese dishes like phở, nem, bánh mì have become popular outside the country, but there are many other tasty dishes not so well-known, like fried rice, he said.
For that reason, through setting the record, the company hopes to promote the cultural diversity and Vietnamese cuisine, especially fried rice, he said.
Vedan is a modern manufacturer that uses bio-technology and fermentation technology to produce food flavour enhancers and starch products in the Asian region.
Its products are sold to food companies, in countries like Japan, other Asian countries and the US. — VNS
