HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Thailand's Central Group plans to change by next year the name of Big C Viet Nam it acquired recently, a Thai newspaper has reported, quoting its CEO.
Tos Chirathivat told the Bangkok Post that the name would be changed though his company had the rights to use the Big C name for another decade.
However, a Big C Viet Nam spokesperson told Viet Nam News that he has yet to hear about the name change plans.
The company wants to have all its retail businesses such as Robins department stores and Nguyen Kim electronics stores at one place to utilise space better, Tos said.
After acquiring Big C Viet Nam from Casino Group, Central has deferred its plans to acquire new retail stores in Europe and focus on expanding its retail business in Viet Nam, he said.
"Europe is a mature retail market. Our focus is now on Viet Nam, which has a lot of retail opportunities."
Central Group has a presence in eight business categories in Viet Nam with its retail business reporting sales of 40 billion baht (US$1.13 billion) last year, the same as in Europe. — VNS
