HCM CITY (Biz Hub) — Big C supermarket chain has expanded its purchase programme that supports farmers in Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces to help boost sales of their lychee.

More than 200 tonnes of lychee are expected to be sold through the supermarket this year, 30 per cent more than last year. There will be promotions to push sales.

According to authorities in Lào Cai, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen, where the fruit is grown, the harvest has begun.

Output in the two main areas — Bac Giang and Hai Duong — is expected to be 180,000 tonnes.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Domestic Market Department, 40 per cent of the country's output will be exported this year, with the rest mainly consumed in big cities like Ha Noi, HCM City, Hue, and Da Nang. — VNS
